The Nature of Personal Reality by Jane Roberts

“The Seth Books” are a popular set of books first published in the 70s that have been attributed to changing the lives of countless readers. Seth is an angel who speaks through Jane, the sessions of which are transcribed by her husband Robert F. Butts and compiled into several books. The Nature of Personal Reality is one of the most referenced in the series. And in the Law of Assumption community, this book is highly regarded.

Seth begins telling us right from the get-go that we humans have unlimited power and potential and that we create our own realities. He states this on several occasions, reminding us of this all-important fact through repetition.

“There is nothing in your exterior experience that did not originate within you … In the most miraculous fashion you are given the gift of creating your experience.”

“You make your own reality. There is no other rule. Knowing this is the secret of creativity.”

Seth expands upon many of the concepts of the Law of Assumption (without calling it as such) in depth and detail. He iterates that our realities are based on what we focus on, and therefore, the need to change limiting beliefs becomes paramount if you’re seeking serious change. He also asks you not to fear your emotions nor confuse them with beliefs. Instead, use those emotions to find your limiting beliefs as you would follow a map. Then use your imagination to change them.

“Imagination also plays an important part in your subjective life, as it gives mobility to your beliefs. It is one of the motivating agencies that helps transform your beliefs into physical experience. It is vital therefore that you understand the interrelationship between ideas and imagination. In order to dislodge unsuitable beliefs and establish new ones, you must learn to use your imagination to move concepts in and out of your mind. The proper use of imagination can then propel ideas in the directions you desire.

Seth also discusses the power that we all have as interconnected beings of light, the power that we all have access to. He likens our individual souls, if you will, to cells of a body, a tiny part of an infinite whole that has access to anything and everything. We only need to envision that power, see it as something tangible, if you need to, then draw upon that power to create anything. Seth says that by doing so, your manifestations will be insanely fast.

“When you are aware of the existence of the entity and of the soul, you can consciously draw upon their greater energy, understanding and strength.”

In the second part of the book, Seth goes deep into concepts that affect or interact with your reality, such as psychedelic drugs, dreams, hypnosis, and culture and geography. The technical detail is intense. I cannot imagine any human regurgitating this type of information without serious fumbling of words. It’s very clear that the information she received was from an otherworldly source.

This book is a must-have for anyone practicing and/or studying the Law of Assumption.

“I close by saying, as I have said before: You are given the gift of the gods; you create your reality according to your beliefs, yours is the creative energy that makes your world; there are no limitations to the self except those you believe in.”
